Every woman’s pregnancy and birth is unique to her, whether it’s her first or fifth. So, as a pregnancy yoga specialist, I provide private tailored sessions to women in their second or third trimester around a busy work schedule or childcare, as well as group classes (click here for more details) where they can relax and meet other mums-to-be.
It’s common for women to first start yoga during their pregnancy so, if you’re wondering what to expect from a first session with me here’s a sneak peek…
At least a quarter of any first session (and 5-10 minutes at the start of further sessions), we discuss how the pregnancy is going, what specifically the client hopes to get from our time together and how things will likely evolve over time. Women usually come to me during their second trimester, full of energy wanting to keep or get active and strong, whereas later on they may find releasing tension, preparing for birth and help with sleeping becomes more of a priority.
There’s no ‘one size fits all’ but I’ve found a consistent formula that works for my clients: breathing techniques for stress relief, yoga poses (with options to suit your level), pelvic floor exercises, guided relaxation and a space to ask questions and have a giggle if they cried at the Andrex advert that day. I adapt my sessions to support my client’s unique journey physically and emotionally, being mindful that things can be very different from one week to the next.
Here’s what some of my pregnancy clients have said about working with me:
“I have really enjoyed the sessions we have, Kim is really great at tailoring the movements we do to suit the individual ladies needs that specific week. It’s a great space to share what each of us are experiencing and share tips. I come out of the classes feeling very relaxed and it’s generally the best night’s sleep I have all week!!” – Sharron, Maidenhead
“This is my first time doing Kim’s yoga classes and I have to say I love them! I have felt that they have really helped me relax during pregnancy and helped with sleeping issues. Thank you Kim!” – Penelope, Maidenhead
